Wayne Rooney will not start England’s friendly with Spain on Tuesday night so Jordan Henderson will wear the captain’s armband again.

Both Rooney and Ryan Bertrand were absent from training on Monday morning and England boss Gareth Southgate confirmed that the Manchester United man will not start the Wembley clash.

“I wouldn’t start Wayne in this game anyway. Jordan Henderson will be captain,” said Southgate.

“The key for me is I believe we have several leaders including one next to me (Joe Hart) and I don’t think we can have just one captain.

“Too much responsibility has been on Wayne, we need to share that. Once you have a team of those leaders you can have a lot of success.

“Jack (Wilshere) is getting to the peak level physically so for him to be back in with the squad was the first step and he will obviously be looking to get into the game.

“There’s no questioning his talent.”

Wilshere has been playing as a No. 10 while on loan at Bournemouth so could be a straight replacement for Rooney ahead of a midfield of Eric Dier and Henderson.

The most important thing about this fixture is we can now just get in to full flow with he season. The last international until March

Thing is it's better playing a decent side in a friendly match but the games are always so half paced especially when there's nothing really riding on them as most players who'll play know they're spots in the squads are secure these days.

I hope he gives Forster/Heaton a half each they need a game and it seems pointless playing Hart for 90 minutes in this one as I'm guessing he'll also be changing the defence around as well.

FA expecting a crowd of 80,000 plus which is crazy given the fact it's a friendly match they have made tickets cheap but even still that's pretty impressive.

England went 2-0 up Lallana scored a first half penalty and Vardy scored a nice header in the 2nd half.

Looks like Spain are under strength missing most of the back 4 resting DDG and no Iniesta either but England played pretty well first half Lallana the stand out player again before he went off injured.

Spain got 2 late goals back after the subs to make it 2-2 but from the bits I saw England deserved the win.

Lallana once again very impressive up until he went off injured

Shame England didn't see it out
