Wasn't Messi injured for about 2 months?

I must say I don't watch much Spanish football anymore and I'm a bit annoyed Sky binned that Revista show as I used to enjoy watching that but Barca having arguably the 3 best attacking players in the world all in their team at one time is surely taking the p*ss a bit.

Imagine if they add Pogba next season as well.

Barca/Madrid banged in 5+ goals doesn't even register to me anymore I just about take notice when they hit 10 they are so ruthless when it comes to absolutely slamming the minnows to the point where you could almost call it unsporting in America they call it running up the score and it's considered bad sportsmanship.

Barca just done one of them penalties where you pass it. Messi passed to Suarez for his hatrick

If United tried that penalty, Rooney would pass to Martial, who'd then pass it to Carrick, then on to Smalling and back to De Gea.

:D

Just seen that

Isn't that offside? forward pass, only one opposing player in front of the ball?

Only seen it from one angle is Suarez ahead of the defenders on the edge of the box when the ball is played?

Also, they're behind the ball when it's played so doesn't that mean they're onside? Have to admit never been sure how that part of the rule works

Quote:
A player is in an offside position if he is in the opposing team's half of the field and is also "nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent."[1] The 2005 edition of the Laws of the Game included a new IFAB decision that stated[citation needed] being "nearer to an opponent's goal line" meant that "any part of his head, body or feet is nearer to his opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent". By the 2014/2015 Laws, the interpretation included the proviso that "The arms are not included in this definition".[5]:108

So if the ball is closer to the goal line than you then you can't be offside so as long as you're behind the ball you are always onside.

The fact you guys didn't know that rule is slightly disappointing for me!

I know the complexity of active or not active, phases of play etc but the ball being played forward thing I was never 100% sure on so had to check glad I know now

The penalty should have been retaken Suarez entered the box before Messi made contact with the ball.

Yeah I saw another replay that showed that.

One of those things that the refs hardly ever pull you up on except in this case it gave him an obvious advantage.

Always felt the pens should be easier to enforce the assistant ref watches the keeper on the line and the referee watches players coming in the box if the player scores I don't see the point in forcing a re-take for keeper on the line.

Neymar has said the penalty pass was meant for him. He and Messi had been practising it in training but Suarez got there first.

Valencia boss Gary Neville insists it was his decision to name Pako Ayestaran as his assistant.

Neville confirmed the appointment of the 53-year-old, who was Rafael Benitez's assistant at Valencia and Liverpool, after his first La Liga win - against Espanyol on Saturday.

Neville said: "I can be absolutely 100% clear that it was my suggestion and my appointment and no-one else's.

"I spoke to [ex-Liverpool player] Jamie Carragher two weeks ago about Pako."

Valencia named Jesus Garcia Pitarch as sporting director in January, but Neville says that decision was not his.

"I spoke to the president as far back as Christmas before the sporting director was appointed," he said.

"I'm the head coach of Valencia, I will be the head coach of Valencia for the rest of this season. If I leave, Pako will leave. He's come to be part of my coaching staff.

"I understand it might look like there's something going on. There absolutely isn't. After about 10 or 14 days, I recognised I needed to strengthen the coaching set-up. I feel more comfortable already."

Neville was speaking before Valencia's Europa League last-32 first-leg tie with Rapid Vienna on Thursday.

RE: The penalty. Ronaldo was questioned about it a day or two after and he just said 'I know why they did it' and nothing else.

Some people have come to the conclusion he meant they did it to keep Suarez top of the goals list in Spain ahead of CRon. It also gives Messi an assist, so high fives all around.

Sums those sides up really, both as petty as each other.
