I've just changed over from Sky to Virgin. Change over starts next week. Hope they're as good as the recommendations people have made. It works out a whole 10p cheaper.

The reason I've changed was because the people opposite me have a large tree and it keeps making our sky cut out and jump. When we called Sky they come out and said that new health and safety laws meant they could no longer get on the roof and move our Sky box. They wanted £140 for coming out and telling us that.

Virgins Broadband is meant to be better also. We shall see.

Funny, I'm thinking about changing from Virgin to Sky as they say they can give me the same package as Virgin for £6 a month less.

I know that high installs are a problem for Sky, when my mum had it installed the dish had to go on the chimney, and it took weeks to get their specialist height team out!!

Swapped back to virgin last month, cheaper, can record more, high speed broadband, free espn, free multiroom, half price for 6 months and £5 cheaper when the price goes up to normal. Only downside no sky atlantic.

I might have to give Virgin a bell and tell them Sky have offered me better, atm I just have a standard Virgin box, with the bottom level phone and internet and middle tv package. Sky offered the same phone, broadband, and tv package with free installation and a Sky+ HD box.

How much do your download speeds vary?

On Sky I was always at 19mb/s

On Virgin it ranges wildly between 68mb/s to 0.8mb/s!!! :sulk:

Mine is usually pretty stable at 19.8, very occasionally it'll have an off day and the lowest it's gone is about 0.01 meg

Hopefully just teething problems as it's only been in 4 days. This is the first time it's dropped but it's dropped so far it's stuttering on youtube vids

Had virgin for years, they got a lot of stick but I've never really had a problem with them, and when I have.. they've been fine.

Their customer service is a pain in the arse sometimes, but once you get past the accent barrier they're quite helpful.

I was on Sky paying £60 a month for sports/films up until end of July, I got rid of it and bought one of those dodgy sky boxes/subscription which works out at about £100 for a full year of Sky tv (every channel/ppv.. feel free to pm if you want info ;) ). It works out to save £500+ a year. :|

Sounds like Virgin's internet ain't that great.

I'd be ringing tech support with speeds that low and asking what was broken and could they please fix it.

Stop swinging on the cables and you'd be fine.
