The way I look at it, the World is overpopulated so we can get rid of pieces of sh*t like this, the World would be better off without them

That video absolutely shocks me, wtf is going on in the world.

It makes me feel so lucky I'm living in rural France, even though my job isn't as secure as I thought :(

Nine-Year-Old Boy Shoots Girl In Classroom

A nine-year-old boy has shot and critically wounded a girl in their classroom in Washington state.

Police took the schoolboy into custody after the shooting at the Armin Jahr Elementary School in Bremerton, 15 miles west of Seattle.

The girl, aged eight, was taken by air ambulance to Harborview Medical Centre in Seattle with a gunshot wound and remains in a critical condition.

Bremerton School District spokeswoman Patty Glaser said police were still investigating the incident, which took place shortly before the end of classes on Wednesday.

"We do know the gun and the student were found," she said.

The school was locked down before students were allowed to leave.

Police have been treating the incident as an accident.

District authorities said grief counsellors would be on hand for students, staff and parents.

Encouraging people to come forward with information, the school told parents: "We want to assure you that incidence (sic) such as this are rare in our community and we want your child to always feel safe."

That's completely crazy. How does a 9 year old get a gun?

That was my first thought, but leaving it loaded?! They're a bloody idiot whoever is responsible.

All guns can do is kill - so don't have one if you don't want someone to die. How hard can it be..? :rake:

The Americans are very keen on their constitutional right to own firearms... and sadly many keep loaded guns by the bed as they think that it will help them defend their home / family in the event of a burglary. The fact that, statistically, they're more likely to wind up injuring themselves or a loved one seem to not matter.

So once little Timmy has seen the gun, it's not a big stretch to get it when mummy and daddy are out of the room... and then we end up with tragedies like this.

It's not even worth trying to understand or justify the American attitude towards guns.

It's just their culture if you don't like it don't live there.

It's a shame that they consider the right to bear arms more important than he safety of society they evolved as a society where you had a gun to protect yourself whereas our society evolved as one where no one except those defending the borders had guns.

No doubt they'll somehow blame heavy metal music, grand theft auto or TV for this happening and not the fact that dad kept a loaded gun in the house.

apparantly the gun went off in his backpack & hit her

....which make this an issue regarding the proliferation of arms, parenting & social acceptability, rather than a demonic, psychotic, gun wielding 9yr old

....presumably the kid thought it would make him 'cool' at school, i'd have his dumbass parents sterilised

That's a rather different story then. It still raises the age old question of why the USA insists on maintaining a grossly outdated constitutional right to keep firearms, but that's an argument that has been raging in the states for a long old time.

I don't know what action could be taken against the parents, but I would hope they can be imprisoned for negligence or something.

That's true, but the kids don't choose to live there, their parents do so it's the least they could do to put the bullets in a locked box or something. Hopefully it'll be a wake up call and we won't see it happening again.

Heavy Metal is my odds on favourite to get the blame. GTA and/or Muslims/terror's fault also 2-1.

Well the point of having a gun to protect from an intruder which is why most American's claim to have one is that it's in a place where you can get to it when you need it. You'd think common sense suggests you keep the gun in the sock drawer but the bullets in the bedside table or if you're not a complete dumb ass you keep both in some sort of secure cabinet.

You say a wake up call but I imagine things like this happen every day a young kid finds dads gun and gets caught with it just this time he managed to get it to school.

I dunno I heard he was part of some sort of Al Queda sleeper cell :p

Aye it probably is pretty common anywhere there are guns, MMFY is spot on the only newsworthy thing about this are the children's ages. I lost a school friend who was out on a hunt, he was about 12 or 13 I think when the gun in his holster went off while he was climbing over a small fence - I dunno why people don't seem to learn from other people's previous mistakes.

Besides rappers :p - all guns can do is kill so it's inevitable something will go wrong or somebody will misuse one or even just a tragic accident like this one. The only answer seems to be don't have a gun... which in America I'd imagine is pretty rare so no wonder it's such a dangerous place.

If they're not white I wouldn't be surprised...

I once saw a comercial for the UZI . One of the big selling points was it was safe to have in a house with little kids.
You need bigger hands to push the safety and pull the trigger at the same time.
This was illustrated by a movie of a toddler on a lawn playing with an UZI .

It also helps if the kids are white and from the suburbs.

But on a serious note there was a school shooting in Ohio today. 1 dead 4 injured, kid apparently walked into the cafeteria and just opened fire.

I'll never understand the need to own a gun. I've lived in America my entire life and never even shot a gun bigger than a BB gun, and that's hardly a gun at all. They'll argue it's for hunting, but don't want to give up their pistols. It's never gonna change.

Bigger hands? How fool proof is that?!

God forbid they figure out how to use both hands, one for the safety and one for the trigger.

Can't say I've ever seen a gun advertisement in the UK though, that's one (possibly only) good thing about the nanny state we have over here, can't let us think for ourselves eh...

Don't think it was broadcasted in holland. :p
For some time I have been shooting as a sport .
And as much some guys of the club were gungrazy the playing kid with the UZI was not seen as the right thing to do.

A three-year-old child has been treated for alcoholism by staff at an NHS hospital.

The unnamed toddler, thought to be Britain’s youngest alcoholic, was among 13 children aged 12 and under who were diagnosed as alcoholics by the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust between 2008 and 2010.

The Trust, which runs hospitals in Birmingham, Solihull and Sutton Coldfield, said a further 106 teenagers aged 13 to 16 were treated for addiction to alcohol during the same period.

Health managers declined to give details of the three-year-old’s condition due to patient confidentiality regulations.

A spokeswoman for the Trust said: “We treat alcohol abuse very seriously and have specialist teams and experts on hand who are there to treat young patients with alcohol-related problems.

“This enables us to provide the best possible care for our patients.”
